MacBook Air 2018 vs MacBook Pro: Are you Confused Between the Two? Read On
Since MacBook Air has the latest features and specifications, anybody would be inclined to buy Air. But as I said, you should take your decision based on your needs.
Specifications/Configurations
It is a fact universally accepted that pro-users would always check software configurations of a computer or laptop. Performance of the two devices is the critical factor, and therefore, think twice before you make any final choice. I have compared the processors of the two laptops and found that MacBook Pro is a notch above the MacBook Air 2018. The basic MacBook Pro has 7th-gen 2.3GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, with Turbo Boost of up to 3.6 GHz. On the other hand, MacBook Air boasts 8th generation 1.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz. As mentioned above, MacBook Pro has a marginal victory over the latest MacBook Air with better clock speed than the latter. The pro user would surely consider this minor difference as they might use MacBook Pro for video editing and graphic designs. Moreover, higher configurations also mean users can do multitasking effortlessly on their MacBook Pro.
Design and Display
For common users, the two features can be deal-breakers or deal-makers. Your first glance over a smart device lands on the design. MacBook Air has an impressive aluminum finish, so does the MacBook Pro. But Air offers beautiful color options; unlike MacBook Pro, Air comes with three color choices for users: Gold, Silver, and Space Gray. While MacBook Pro is available in Silver and Space Gray. Even if you strike that ‘Gold’ color off the palette, you cannot ignore the fact that MacBook Air weighs only 2.75 pounds against the hefty MacBook Pro 3.02 pounds. Once you are won over by the design of MacBook Air, you will be floored by its Retina display with the resolution of 2,560×1,600 for 227 pixels per inch. Both have similar keyboards and trackpads, with MacBook Air having third-generation butterfly keyboard and larger trackpad than the Pro.
Light and compact
As the name suggests, Apple keeps Air 2018 thin in profile. The latest MacBook Air comes in 0.16-0.61 inches in thickness and 11.97 inches in width. For travelers, MacBook Air becomes an obvious choice against MacBook Pro, which is 0.59 inches thick.
Battery and Power
I think that both devices score equal here. The USB-C power port is available in Pro and Air, but the two devices have their uniqueness in battery and power. While MacBook Air has the edge over Pro in the running time of the battery, MacBook Pro gives the competitor good run for its money in battery strength. MacBook Pro is packed with Integrated 54.5-watt-hour lithium-polymer battery; MacBook Air has Integrated 50.3-watt-hour lithium-polymer battery. Moreover, Pro comes with powerful 61W USB-C Power Adapter, whereas Air has 30W USB-C Power Adapter.
Touch ID
A Touch ID on MacBook Air makes your life easier when you are supposed to log in somewhere or make payments for your shopping. This feature is not available on MacBook Pro without Touch Bar.
Miscellaneous Features
Apart from the above differences, I found little dissimilarity between MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. Both devices have Two Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2 wireless technology, FaceTime HD camera, Full-size backlit keyboard, Force Touch trackpad, Photos, iMovie, GarageBand, Pages, Numbers, Keynote, and macOS Mojave.
Who is the winner?
When two contestants are running closely, side by side, it is difficult to predict the winner. Here, we have compared two killer products, which boast more or less similar features and specifications. It becomes tough to pronounce verdict in this situation. Budget plays an important role here 8th-gen Intel processor, updated keyboard to keep dust away, lighter and thinner chassis, and better battery life are enough to impress end users, who will be more interested in gorgeous Air than flavorless but faster MacBook Pro. I still believe that one should go ahead after analyzing one’s need. Ask yourself a simple question: What do I want to do with my device? You will find the right answer.
