This suggests that we might see iPhone MagSafe chargers in different color options someday when Apple finds them fit to be released for sale.
Is MagSafe the future?
Apple already offers accessories in different color options to match the overall aesthetics of the original product. For example, the company provides MagSafe charging cables in colors matching the finish of the MacBooks. While Apple offers these cables in the box with new MacBooks, users can also purchase cables in four different color options – Space Gray, Silver, Midnight, and Starlight. Similarly, it prototyped MagSafe charging cables in different color options to match the finish of the iPhone but never release it. These leaked prototypes were posted in a tweet by Kosutami San, who is a well-known collector of rare Apple products. She recently got her hands on an unreleased prototype of an iPhone MagSafe charger in Starlight color. “Recently got some prototype and informations. It shows that the MagSafe charger used to have colored version, just like their’MagSafe MacBook Charging cable-but with more saturation,” she wrote in the tweet. Currently, Apple only offers a silver-colored MagSafe charger for iPhones and does not offer any color options for the accessory. As per Kosutami, the prototyped MagSafe charger features more saturated colors as compared to MagSafe power cables. She also added that a similar colored version was prototyped for Magic Charger, which is an unreleased accessory by Apple that looks like a vertical charging stand for iPhones, Apple Watch, and AirPods. It remains unclear whether Apple has plans to release more color options for its charging accessories in the future but the idea of offering accessories in different finishes is something that Apple has been trying out lately. In a piece of related news, upcoming iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models will support both Qi2 and MagSafe wireless charging protocols to offer 15W wireless charging speed to users. Qi2 is a new charging protocol based on MagSafe but it is reportedly cheaper than the MagSafe module and does not require to be certified by Apple’s Made for iPhone (MFI) program. This will allow third-party wireless chargers to charge iPhones at up to 15W, which is exclusive to MagSafe chargers currently.
